This week marks the first time the PCSC has ever honored athletes of the week, which means Hauanio is one of the award's inaugural winners. Because the conference features schools from multiple divisions, it has selected male and female award winners from NCAA Division I, II and III, as well as the NAIA.
Hauanio shined in all of her events last Friday during East Bay's season-opening dual meet victory over Mills College. The 2013-14 All-American claimed victories in all four races and posted four top-10 times. She captured the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:05.59, an outstanding pace for an early-season swim. She also won the 200 butterfly, posting a time of 2:16.33.
In addition, Hauanio paced the Pioners in a pair of relays. She swam the first leg of the 400 medley relay, posting a 100 backstroke split of 59.11 seconds. She led off the 400 freestyle relay as well, touching the wall with a split time of 52.81.
Hauanio and the Pioneers are back at Mills College next Saturday, Oct. 24 to compete in the annual Bay Area Invitational.
